Yes, you absolutely can! We have photographed babies as young as 5 days old right up to 4 months old in the newborn style.
 

With that said there are a few differences between two week old babies and babies older than 2 weeks.

This is why some photographer only offer
 

Babies under 2 weeks old have a longer sleep window, they are used to being curled up in the womb &  it can be easier for me to pose them in that natural curled up position.
 

Babies over 2 weeks old are getting used to being out of the womb and curl up a little less as they get older however, this doesn't necessarily mean these beautiful curled up photos cannot be done with babies older than 2 weeks, it is natural for them to feel safe tucked in. This  may mean I add extra supports so they do feel supported to mimic the feeling of being held, cradled or swaddled by their parents. It is slightly different to a 2 week newborn.

Something a little extra... With older babies you do however gain a bit more awake time.
What does this mean for your session? It means we can aim for not only sleepy baby photos but also the dreamy eyes open poses which can sometimes be matched with a smile.  As a portrait artist these awake shots absolutely melt my heart and are food for the lens!!
 

Ages above 2 months 

It is that ridiculously cute sweet spot for photographing little babies.

   They are still small & squishy but with their perfect features really coming through now they really do give all the sweet baby vibes.  Their eye colour is becoming really clear by now and their eyes are beaming when they are awake which is absolute magic to photograph in our bright studio.  They are showing more character and smiling a lot more now and they are perfectly cuddly to pose. 

As a photographer babies around the 2-3 month mark are a real show stopper for me in galleries.  The dreamy eyes, the smiles & their little characters. I fall more and more in love with photographing these older babies with each session I do.

So... This is why some baby photographers like myself, will welcome newborn sessions well after 2 weeks. It is actually really exciting as a newborn photographer to be able to capture babies in this beautiful age bracket.

More complex poses

Sometimes very intricate poses such as the famous 'froggy pose"  can be a little trickier to capture. To do this pose bub needs to be very relaxed and/or very sleepy .
With that said we have done this with babies as old as 3 months like this image of little Kirra.
.However,  this pose cannot be promised at any age no matter how young your newborn is. 

All froggy poses I do are a composite edit of 2-3 images so the baby is safe and supported the whole time. This means A LOT more editing for me but safety is always priority when working with little ones so it is definitely worth it..
